The role of toxicology in forensic investigations

Abstract: Objective: This review paper aims to elucidate the critical role of toxicology in forensic investigations, demonstrating its significance in elucidating cases related to poisoning, drug influence, and chemical exposure. Methodology: An extensive review was conducted of current literature sourced from peer-reviewed journals, case studies, and expert commentary within the fields of forensic science and toxicology. Results: The review highlights the diverse applications of toxicological analysis in legal settings, from determining the cause of death in postmortem examinations to assessing impairment in criminal incidents. Advances in analytical techniques and their impact on the accuracy and scope of forensic investigations are discussed. Conclusion: Forensic toxicology remains a pivotal element of the criminal justice system, providing essential evidence that supports legal processes and enhances public safety. The ongoing development of analytical methods promises to further refine the precision and reliability of toxicological data in forensic contexts.
